NBA power rankings: Injuries shake up league, winless Miami Heat plummet
The 2026-27 NBA regular season is merely one week, old but injuries have already made a massive impact in both the short- and long-term. The NBA season is one week into its young period, with no teams having played five games yet. However, injuries to key players such as Anthony Edwards, Jalen Williams, and Paolo Banchero have already impacted the league. The Miami Heat, who acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo in the summer, have yet to win a game. The Pelicans lead the NBA in points in the paint per game and are tied for 28th in catch and shoot points per game. Meanwhile, the Bulls are struggling to gel under new coach Tiago Splitter, ranking last in net rating (-18.3), field goal percentage (40.6%), 3-point shooting (23.8%) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.13). Milwaukee has seen positive returns from their new-look package for Giannis Antonetokoumpo, while Phoenix ranks last in the NBA with defensive rating (21-0), allowing 124.5 points per 100 possessions. The Magic are dealing with injury to key front-court players Jaren Jackson and Lauri Markkanen, while No. 1 overall rookie AJ Dybantsa is yet to play.
