Peak fall color arrives across the Miami Valley, bringing weeks of vibrant views
While some leaves crunch underfoot, the canopies of vivid yellows and rich reds overhead are a sign that it’s peak color time in and around the Miami Valley. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is experiencing peak fall color time in the Miami Valley, bringing weeks of vivid yellows and reds. The department's fall color forester, David Parrott, said that due to the lack of drought or near-drought conditions, trees were less stressed and this can lead to an extended and colorful fall. While northern Ohio has already hit peak color, southern parts are celebrating now. Parroatt noted that shorter days and longer nights kick off the color transformation, but temperature and moisture also play a significant role in the timing of the process. Tracking fall color across the state is easy with the interactive Ohio Fall Color Progress Map on the ODNR website.
