The Trump administration is undermining the Cuban Adjustment Act (CAA), which allows Cubans to apply for permanent residency after one year and one day in the country. The act was implemented by Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966 and has allowed millions of Cubans since then to gain legal status. However, after Donald Trump's return to the White House in 2025, the fate of the CAA was sealed. USCIS has stopped resolving cases and 342,360 individuals are left without knowing when their applications will be resolved. The White House has deported 3,385 Cubans during his first term and 8,500 in his second term until August 2026.
