No sidewalk riding: Miami passes new e-bike, scooter rules.
Pedestrian safety concerns have sparked new rules across Miami-Dade cities. The city of Miami has passed new rules regulating motorized micromobility vehicles, including e-bikes and motorized scooters, setting new speed limits, age minimums and sidewalk rules. The rules were approved by Miami commissioners on Oct. 22 and ban riders younger than 16 years old, prohibit riding on sidewalks except when parking, and set a 20-mph speed limit. Riders can't park on sidewalks unless in designated areas and must carry ID. The University of Miami also banned e-bike and scooters from its Coral Gables campus this summer. The new rules are effective immediately unless vetoed by the mayor. Key Biscayne recently received approval from the county to implement restrictions on Crandon Boulevard, including a 20 mph speed limit and a ban on sidewalk riding.
