NBA power rankings: Injuries shake up league, winless Miami Heat plummet
The 2026-27 NBA regular season is merely one week, old but injuries have already made a massive impact in both the short- and long-term. The NBA season is one week into its young season, with no teams having played five games yet. However, injuries to key players such as Anthony Edwards, Jalen Williams, and Paolo Banchero have already impacted the league. The Miami Heat, who acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo in the summer, have not yet won a game and are ranked winless. The Pelicans lead the NBA in points in the paint per game (60.7), but are tied for 28th in catch and shoot points per game. Meanwhile, the Bulls are struggling to gel under new coach Tiago Splitter, ranking last in net rating (-18.3), field goal percentage (40.6%), 3-point shooting (23.8%) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.13). Milwaukee has seen some positive returns from their new-look package for Giannis Antonetokonmpo, while Phoenix ranks last in the league in defensive rating (21.0), allowing only 124.5 points per 100 possessions. The Hornets have not had the most cohesive offense (215 per game) and are tied to 28th for field goal%.
